How to Prepare for Your First Thai Massage
Walking into a massage studio for the first time can feel intimidating. Here's everything you need to know to feel confident and relaxed before your first session at Ying.
Before you arrive
Eat something light 1–2 hours before — neither fully fasted nor heavy. Hydrate well throughout the day. Avoid alcohol and heavy caffeine in the hours leading up to your appointment.
What to wear
For Traditional Thai massage, you'll be given comfortable loose cotton clothing to change into. For oil massage, you'll undress to your comfort level (underwear is fine) and be draped with sheets at all times. Either way, leave jewellery and watches at home.
Arrive 10 minutes early
This gives you time to fill in a short health intake form, enjoy welcome herbal tea, and settle into the space. Rushing in stressed undoes half the benefit before we begin.
Communicate openly
Tell Ying about any injuries, recent surgeries, pregnancy, or areas that feel tender. Pressure preferences (lighter or deeper) can be adjusted at any point — never feel shy to speak up.
During the session
Breathe deeply and slowly. Many guests fall asleep — that's perfectly fine. Some areas may feel intense; this is normal as tight tissue releases.
After your session
Drink plenty of water for the next 24 hours to help flush released toxins. Avoid intense exercise for the rest of the day. A warm bath with Epsom salts in the evening compounds the benefits beautifully.
We can't wait to welcome you.
